Time is the most phenomenal gift we could ever be given, we can create masterpieces, visions of beauty, accomplish feats of sheer brilliance if we use to the fullest, our gift of time; the gift we have been given for free!
Time doesn’t discriminate, it does not reflect bias or prejudice. It does not empathize or compromise. Time is what it is!
We all get 24 hours, no more, no less. Yet the variety of endeavors people undertake in their respective 24 hours is so diverse and varied it is astounding to take in! Its all we have!
NO More Tomorrows
It was in analyzing myself and having a deep and honest conversation with myself that the difference highlighted above started to really get me taking a sincere look at what I am doing with this most precious gift of time You see I understood that O could have anything I wanted, I knew what I needed to do, I knew how to do what I needed to do but I still wasn’t accomplishing anything.
I was setting an ugly trend of each week reviewing my goals and trying to explain why I hadn’t moved on anything...eventually I had to stop!
Today was the tomorrow that I had been promising myself for the last few months and years.
The tomorrow when I will get started, the tomorrow when I will do a bit extra to make up for lost time, the tomorrow when I will change! You see it was this realization of the obvious that led to this honest analysis…I was and continued to squander the time I have and the longer this went on the more the frustrations manifested.
Changing Direction, Overcoming My Mental Inertia
The Last Drop...
It was essential for me to Break the “I don’t have time excuse” this is an extremely soft and weak alibi I was letting drive a wedge between me, my goals and the lifestyle I want to create. It again came down to sincere effort and application but with a focused analysis of how I was structuring my day and applying myself each day I found many pockets of minutes wasted that when accumulated amounted to hours throughout the day. This was disastrous!
I analysed my day, from the time I woke up till the time I went to bed. Each half hour I tracked over the course of a month and could identify a trend, one that when corrected allowed me to make better use of my day. This did require planning and discipline, but like all skills was improved upon with application. Another important factor was that by doing this analysis and also by changing my sleeping patterns I was able to get 2 “more” hours out of each day.
Wallace D Wattles in the Science of Getting Rich teaches Efficient action…do everything that can be done each day. This is imperative, as you see it is by getting busy and keeping busy that the effectiveness of each minute becomes enhanced which in turn leads to a productivity that emphasizes the quality of results delivered.
Now the important thing was not to jam pack my day from beginning to end with an exorbitant list of activities, but what I was able to get through better structure was time to reflect, time to study, time to read and time to meditate in and among all the priorities I had to my family, faith and employers.
It was not how much I was doing that counted but how I was doing what I was doing that made a difference…
Zig Ziglar taught and invaluable lesson that made a massive difference to me and continues to make a difference: “Be present where you are!”
When I am at work I focus on work, when I am with family I focus on family, when I am undertaking my volunteer activities, I focus on these.
By doing this, regularly with commitment and faith I created a significant momentum towards my goals that continues to gather pace and will continue to do so.
